Preparing for the Write of Passage
By David Yoo
On the last week of Structured Writing, we worked to complete our college essays, so they could be ready to be presented on Final Night. We started off the week with an online chat with Lauren Jones, who completed her first year of college and previously had Alexa as her teacher, who told us about her college essay experience. The meeting the entire program attended for our evening activity on Tuesday with Eli and Meghan from the company Logic Prep also gave us some more insight into how to write the college essay. And of course, Alexa was with us every step of the way, assisting us in our essay, giving feedback, and stimulating our brains so we could keep writing to the best of our ability.
I personally never really knew how much of a positive effect writing could have. How relaxing it is to just put words down, even with the ever present fear of “will this be good enough?” How exciting it is to realize what you just wrote was really creative, and for others to agree with you on that sentiment. Even the smaller things, like feeling proud of the title you came up with, are rewarding. I never thought I’d say this, but this has been a great three weeks of writing.
David, Josie, and Emma sit in the cool of Frost Library to work on adding detail to their college essay drafts.
