Hi everyone!
It’s Emma and Leilani here writing to announce our project we call “Save the Moose!” After listening to the former governor of Vermont talk to us about climate change and the effect it has on the wildlife, we realized that it was essential that we do anything we can to help save the planet.
So, what is the “Save the Moose” project? It is a “foundation” (if you will) that we created in which we sell moose theme stickers and donate the proceeds to a non-profit called ACORE. ACORE is an organization working to promote renewable energy. If we shift from fossil fuel energy (and other non-renewable energy sources) to renewable energy, there will be fewer carbon emissions, hopefully leading to a cooler climate which keeps the moose (and all living things) safe.
It is likely that you hear about climate change on the news, or may even be experiencing the effects in your home town. You might be wondering what you can do to help this issue. Though there are countless ways to help save the earth, we have a recommendation – you can purchase stickers, phone cases, and more from our website . If you don’t want to purchase stickers but still would like to support the cause, you can donate to our GoFund me instead. By doing this, you can not only help to combat climate change, but you can also support the work of young, passionate entrepreneurs on a mission to make their voices heard.
The inspiration for the moose project came from Emma’s desire to see a moose while on the White Mountains excursion. Many of the Putney students know how often she talked about wanting to see the moose, and she kept her eyes peeled the entire trip. Unfortunately, there were no moose to be seen anywhere in the White Mountains. Although this was disappointing, Emma still had hope that one day she would see a moose in the wild, maybe in Alaska. However, more bad news came when the governor informed the Putney students that climate change in Alaska was causing moose populations to drop rapidly, and it was a possibility that someday soon, moose would join the growing list of animals going extinct due to human-induced climate change. Realizing something must be done to stop this impending tragedy, Emma told her friends she wanted to raise money to protect the moose and combat climate change. Immediately, they went to work, creating a website, promoting social media, and setting up a store to sell their stickers. The organization quickly grew from one member to nine (Emma F., Grace M., Jordan I., Leilani K., Zoe S., Marina V., Zubair A., Courtney M. and Rodman S.) The outpour of support here in Amherst was amazing, but now we need your help raise some profits to donate!
Thank you so much!
