Tonight, Peter Shumlin, former governor of Vermont and co-director of Putney Student Travel, came to talk to our group about climate change, global education, and what we can do to be the change we want to see in the world. Students had a lot of questions–from whether reusable straws will really make a difference, to how to combat emotional, partisan politics in order to enact substantive change. After the talk, campus was abuzz with students talking about initiatives they want to spearhead and thinking about ways to get involved in their schools and other communities. On Thursday, we will be continuing to think about climate change and sustainability when we visit the living buildings at Hampshire College.
